Free wireless Internet access is available throughout Concord Hospital. The service uses the 802.11b wireless network standard and should be accessible by any computer or handheld device running current, standard operating systems, such as Windows XP or MacOS.

The hospital offers this service to benefit patients and families who may need to stay for extended periods of time, such as those patients receiving lengthy chemotherapy treatment. The cancer resource library on the ground floor also has two laptops available for patients to use during their hospital stay. A driver’s license or other form of official picture ID is required to check out a laptop.

If a patient wants to access the free wireless Internet service, it is recommended that they ask family member or friend to bring them their laptop computer once they are resting comfortably in their room.

This service is separate from any network used to transmit patient data. There are certain restrictions and limitations that patients and visitors should be aware of while accessing Internet service at Concord Hospital. The hospital uses content filtering tools to help people avoid inadvertently accessing select Web sites. Concord Hospital does not collect personally identifiable information, but does record the laptop computer’s address, time and date for usage reporting. Additionally, patients and visitors may not print any Internet documents or any e-mail messages.

If there are questions or problems logging onto the Internet from inside the Concord Hospital, the information technology services help desk is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
