Supervisory Referral to EAP Print Page

Our Employee Assistance Program provides objective guidance and coaching to supervisors related to concerns they may have about an employee’s job performance. Supervisors can make a supervisory referral to EAP, which encourages the employee to use EAP for assistance in correcting issues that may be contributing to job performance decline. For more information on how supervisors use this process, contact us via e-mail.

What you can expect when making a supervisory referral:
  • An understanding and professional discussion of your problems and concerns about your employee
  • Review of setting performance expectations and current performance issues, with the goal of helping you decide on a plan and approach to managing your employee
  • Guidance in effective documentation of performance
  • Guidance and support in confronting your employee about his or her performance and behavior problems
  • Competent and professional assessment and support of your employee when you send him or her for help
  • Follow-up with you to the extent permitted by an information release signed by the employee
  • Ongoing assistance to help you adjust to a new, productive relationship with your employee
